Kente cloth was develoed by the Akan people of West Africa. Many of Akan live in Ghana and Ivory Coast today. Traditionally the cloths were for sacred and royal occassions. They feature bold designs and bright colors, each of which bears meaning. For example, black signifies maturity and strong spiritual energy.
I like the delicate nature of the the flower tattoo compared to the other bold tattoos shown on the board. I also like the meaning behind it in the Japanese culture as it represents life, knowledge and enlightenment.

Jessica Rimondi I like how the paint validates the emotions and expressions within this portrait, by the limited palette it structures the shapes and forms. Then to have a deeper depth of what is trying to be convey and incorporated by the use of the paint with the techniques being able to enforce the concepts. I would like to experiment with my own developments to have a source of vivid expression, to allow the painting to speak for itself and not have any narrative connotation towards it…
