Japan earthquake and tsunami one month on: 30 powerful images of the disaster

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

Tales from the bar - a tour of London's 'great pubs'

This narrow pub on the Thames is one of the best places to watch the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race - if you can find a space to stand. Anecdotal evidence suggests the Dove was actually a licensed pub as early as 1730 - when the green fields and orchards of 18th Century Hammersmith offered tranquillity away from the City of London, which was then only a two-hour coach ride away.

Love this as a display piece, or just alone! This would have looked great over at Uncle Donny's.....he would have loved it. Wouldn't have used as a bar

Jules Gautier, is a prime example of the Victorian exhibitionist swimmer. Born in 1856 and a pianoforte maker by trade, he was known as “the champion of France”, although in fact he hailed from Islington. In 1909 he was still swimming the Thames manacled, only this time he swam the university boat race course from Putney to Mortlake, “towing a boat [pictured here] licensed to carry eight persons”.
