No Escape: Dive Into a Black Hole (Infographic) by Karl Tate - When matter is compressed beyond a certain density, a black hole is created. It is called black because no light can escape from it. Some black holes are the tombstones of what were once massive stars. An enormous black hole is thought to lurk at the center of the Milky Way galaxy.

In August of 2007, astronomers located a gigantic hole in the universe. This empty space, stretching nearly a billion light-years across, is devoid of any matter such as galaxies, stars, and gas, and neither does it contain the strange and mysterious dark matter, which can be detected but not seen. The large void in the Constellation Eridanus appears to be improbable given current cosmological models. A radical and controversial theory proposes that it is a "universe-in-mass black hole"

A binary black hole system, viewed edge-on. This pair of extremely dense objects twists and warps spacetime as the two black holes spiral in toward one another. a tiny black hole is eating a giant star, shows clearly the power of a black hole no matter it's size it is tremendously powerful.

Einstein's gravitational waves 'seen' from black holes

For the first time, scientists detect tiny, rhythmic distortions in space and time - gravitational waves - predicted by Einstein 100 years ago.

Will a black hole swallow our galaxy earlier than first thought?

Black holes prevent anything, including light, from escaping their grasp-a lot like living in NM

Black hole bonanza in 'next door' Andromeda galaxy

Black hole bonanza in 'next door' Andromeda galaxy / Black holes contain the keys to a deeper understanding of the universe. Astronomers think these could be just the tip of the iceberg. Details of the find will be published in the June 20 issue of The Astrophysical Journal. Gas falling into a black holes emits X-rays & betrays to astronomers the invisible 'death star.'
