I wish I had this. Sue Foell - Rehearsal Watching my daughter’s dance company rehearse for the Nutcracker ballet last year gave me plenty of material to paint from. This piece was during the “Snow” scene rehearsal – there were girls standing around and socializing and then there were girls who took this practice more seriously!

During (Watercolour Picture): This picture immediately jumped out at me for being an example of the dancer I was at the beginning of grade 9 and my first experience in the Arts Program. The black represents me feeling scared and not good enough compared to the other phenomenal dancers. The blue butterflies show the fact that I am beginning to fly, to grow and to learn. I am starting to realize that dance is not always about staying in the lines.
Janet Collins was the first and only African American to become Prima Ballerina at the Metropolitan Opera in New York (1951). That was almost 65 years ago and she alone today still holds that accomplishment.
