Pinterest inspired me to make this split face wooden wall art for my bathroom wall. I cut up lengths of beech wood kitchen worktop and attached them with a small gap between each piece to a thin sheet of plywood which I'd painted cream. I then mounted it just slightly away from the wall with some LED lighting strip to glow from behind.
Not only is beech a fantastic value timber for creating solid wood kitchen worktops, its hard-wearing qualities also make for a great chopping board, too. Ours measure 450mm X 300mm X 40mm in size and come pre-sanded and oiled, with a soft pencil edge profile applied on both the top and bottom: http://www.worktop-express.co.uk/worktop_accessories/Solid_Beech_Worktop_Chopping_Board.html
