Arthur Godfrey (August 31, 1903 – March 16, 1983). Born in New York, NY. At the age of 15 he lied about his age and enlisted in the US Navy serving on a destroyer from 1920-24. Later he joined the US Coast Guard serving from 1927-30. Radio and television broadcaster and entertainer best known for his television series Arthur Godfrey and His Friends.

Arthur Godfrey - Radio, Television Personality. One of the first superstars of early television, "The Old Redhead" appeared in two Top 10 prime-time shows - "Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts" on Monday nights and "Arthur Godfrey and His Friends" on Wednesday nights for CBS at the same time. Scouts was slightly higher rated, reaching No. 1 for the 1951-52 season. The following year, Scouts and Friends were No. 2 and 3, respectively, just behind "I Love Lucy".

Arthur Godfrey, the old redhead - Radio.  I listenedwatched him every morning.  VERY early TV.  His sayings I remember ... "We grow too soon old and too late smart" ... and "Stay with the guy who brung ya'".
