Splashdown. Apollo 13 was the seventh manned mission in the American space program and the third intended to land on the Moon. It was launched on April 11, 1970, from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, but the lunar landing was aborted after an oxygen tank exploded two days later. Despite great hardship caused by limited power, loss of cabin heat, shortage of potable water, and the critical need to jury-rig the carbon dioxide removal system, the crew returned safely to Earth on April 17.

Houston, we have a problem. Spoken by Capt. Jim Lovell, of Apollo 13, April 1970. The start of 4 days of disaster & survival in space. An electrical short led to an oxygen tank explosion on April 13 . Astronauts Lovell,Swigert & Haise were 200,000 miles from Earth with limited power, damaged ship & heavy carbon dioxide. A few razor-sharp calculations & tremendous bravery, the crew & ground control used the remaining fuel & the moon's gravity to get them back to Earth alive & well.
