John F. Kennedy 1963, by Elaine de Kooning, wife of abstract expressionist Wilem de Kooning, coined the term 'Abstract Impressionism'. She was known as a New York Figurative Expressionist, as you can see here, but the term she coined has a nicer ring to it, which is why I'm using it here. She was also an editorial associate for Art News magazine, a prominent Fine Arts periodical still going today.
