Amelia Boynton Robinson (born Amelia Platts), American women's & civil rights activist, leader of the American Civil Rights Movement, & a key figure in the 1965 Selma to Montgomery marches. She was also the 1st female African American to run for office in AL, and was a founding Vice-President of the Schiller Institute. She was awarded the MLK Freedom Medal, and crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge with President Obama during the Selma 50th Anniversary March. R.I.P.
