The Marauders - A Muggle Zoo<< How did no one notice this happening though?

In his novel "La Paysanne Pervertie ou Les Dangers De La Ville" (1784) Rétif de la Bretonne mentions "the beautiful" Berry" as an example of how excessive drinking and eating can destroy a girl's charms : "she was born the most delicate nymph and was like a big fat cow when she died". This shows how Berry was rapidly seen as an emblem of female disorder. The preceding sentence is a clear allusion to Berry's sexual bulimia and its natural consequences i.e. her scandalous fecundity !

Step 4: After the sentence "...Because she's older and the teacher, she's right and I'm not." I'd add my sentence of "Everybody hates Rachael." This would allude to the comedy TV series "Everybody Hates Chris" because in that show the Character Chris never seemed to be honored for anything he'd say or do, like Rachael who was just over seen by authority.

Step 4 Made up an allusion Goes after the last sentence in paragraph 12. If only i was David Copperfield, so i can make this sweater disappear. I put this allusion there because David Copperfield is a famous magician and he has made things disappear before. Rachel doesn't want to be near the sweater, so would love if she can make the sweater disappear from her desk.

...so now that I finished #onfriendship this is my current read. I have never read Evelyn Waugh before but I really wanted to and this was his first novel. So far so good I guess? I have read a ton of British lit but as an American I'm finding Waugh's type of social humor pretty hard to "get." I feel like there are at least a half-dozen jokes per page that are flying right over my head. I recognize that it's meant to be funny and I even see what the allusion is which if I got it would make…

Admittedly, just having the words “Michael Moore” and “woman’s uterus” appear in the same sentence would be considered a gross-out by a good number of people (e.g., many women). But Moore is speaking more topically than you might think.  With the allusion to a woman’s uterus, he’s actually taking on the topic of the hour: …
