It's up, up and away for John Luff's 1956 de Havilland Venom at the Air Chathams Open Day at the airport today. Pic Chaise Taylor. John living his dream. In 1960 he learnt to fly at the Wanganui Aero Club, where he is still an active member, and after flying behind propellers for several years decided to get a jet of his own.
A beautiful aerial view of Air Chathams' superbly maintained Douglas Dakota, the last airworthy RNZAF Dak still in commercial operation. She will be offering rides at Warbirds Over Wanaka 2014 (photo via Warbirds Over Wanaka air show)
Warbirds Over Wanaka 2014 - Flying day Monday, Here I took this interior shot of the old girl just after my flight over Wanaka and surrounds. The flight was much quieter than I expected. It was my first flight in a DAK too. Air Chathams Douglas C-47B Skytrain (DC-3) Wanaka (WKA / NZWF) New Zealand, April 21, 2014
Warbirds Over Wanaka 2014 - This old lady is a new recruit for the event. She has virtually new engines mounted on those wings. Here upon landing I was lucky enough to get some flaming action from those radials. Later on the Flight day Monday I took a flight myself over Wanaka and the nearby lake. A very scenic, nostalgic flight. Air Chathams Douglas C-47B Skytrain (DC-3) Wanaka (WKA / NZWF) New Zealand, April 19, 2014
