If you have a feeder that is on a pole, measure from the ground to the bird-feeder at the top of the pole.  Use 6 inch PVC pipe the same length and slip the bird-feeder pole inside before you pound it into the ground.

I used 1/2 inch PVC Electrical Conduit. I cut it all up into 3 inch pieces with a chop saw and glued them all together. Then I built a box out of foam core board just to have a back for markers to hit so they didn't go all the way through. I used foam core cause it was cheap and easy for me to work with and the marker storage just sits right beside my table on a shelf at arms reach. Those were so much fun to make,take a 6 inch round PVC Pipe, spray paint it white, draw on face with paint marker, and for the stocking cap i used small socks, but you also can use a stocking  cap, tie a scarf around the neck, we used chair pads for buttons. Now all we need is snow.
