The original colour for English  post boxes was green, and the first wall boxes, like this, were installed in mainly rural areas from 1857 onwards. The first boxes to be painted red were in London in July 1874, although it would be nearly 10 years before all the boxes had been repainted. British show jumper Nick Skelton has become Britain's second-oldest Olympic gold medallist in his seventh Games.  The 58-year-old, who initially retired 16 years ago after breaking his neck in two places, claimed individual gold after a six-way jump-off.  It is Britain's first individual show jumping medal since Anne Moore's silver in 1972, and adds to Skelton's gold in the team event at London 2012.
