When the Spanish first introduced the treat to Western Europe in the 17th century, there was really only one: hot chocolate. It was prepared in its very own vessel, the chocolatière, or chocolate pot. The drink required ground cocao beans in hot water, sugar, milk, spices and then frothing the mixture with a stirring stick called a molinet.

It dates to the late 20th century. The base bears a blue Herend factory mark and model no. 620 / 20. It is in overall good, as-pictured used estate condition with no cracks or repairs. Otherwise, there are a very few fine and light glaze and surface scratches here and there and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age.
