Ball gown, British, ca. 1885. Bodice & skirt are moir� silk overlaid & trimmed w/machine-made lace. Bodice is heavily boned & very close-fitting; has narrow waist and is laced at back to resemble a corset. The deep point of the bodice gracefully curves over the back of the skirt. Neckline is low and square at the front and rounded at the back and trimmed with a fall of lace. Lined w/silk, cotton, & whalebone strips.
