Grade 10 Elkanah House pupil Connor Bax sailed in the African Mirror Championships in December last year. He came 17th overall and 8th for SA, beating 4 of the official SA team boats. More recently he sailed in the Mirror Worlds, coming 31st out of a fleet of 60 Mirrors from South Africa, Great Britain, Australia, France and Japan. He plans to attend the next Mirror world in 2017 in the United Kingdom.
Grade 9 pupil Jack Oliver achieved 2 Golds (100m and 50m Backstroke), 1 Silver (50m Butterfly) and a Bronze (200m Backstroke) at the Western Province Swimming Championships towards the end of 2015. He swam against 15 year old swimmers. He also achieved personal bests in all his races. Jack qualifies for Level 3 National Age Group Championships, SA Youth and is now a member of the official WP Aquatics team to go to Durban in 2015.
Kegan du Plessis and Mikael Rothig were selected to represent Table View Football Club's U19 Colts team to play in the Metropolitan Cup Tournament. Teams from all over Africa qualify to play in the tournament. Some of the big names at the tournament were Hellenic, Ajax, Santos, Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaiser Chiefs.
Nicole Petchey (grade 10) and her younger sister Myah (grade 7), competed in four National Key Health Tournaments in Port Elizabeth, East London, Cape Town and Boland during the December/January holidays. Nicole made a final, two semi-finals and a second round. She won one doubles title and lost in the final of another. Nicole also won the Western Province trials this weekend and is placed as the No 1 player for the Inter-Provincials which will take place in Bloemfontein in March.
Senior Primary pupil William Thomson participated at the SANESA (South African National Equestrian Schools Association). He entered six events and did very well in Dressage (1st) and Performance riding (3rd). William will participate again in the next SANESA event which will be held on 1 and 2 March.
Grade 11 Elkanah House pupil Jason swam in the Western Province championships in December 2013. He qualified for Level Three nationals 2014 as well as SA Youth Nationals 2014. He won a silver medal for his 1500 freestyle and a bronze for his 200 Butterfly. Jason also swam in the Reconciliation Day Swim at Clifton 3rd Beach on 16 December 2013 The water was 12 degrees and very cold. He swam the 1,6km race and came in first place overall.
The Senior Primary athletics team achieved 3 medals at the Lochnerhof Athletics event. This event saw 24 of the finest athletics schools in the Western Cape in action. Of these schools, 12 were from Western Province, 11 from Boland and 1 from South Western Districts. Elkanah House, undoubtedly the smallest school in numbers, finished 18th on the overall medals table – a fantastic achievement in only our second time competing in this event which over 25 years old.
