Zimbabwe - On the road - a strip road. I've looked and looked for a picture of this. Miles of 2 tarmac strips for the tires. When we went to live in Zimbabwe in 1977 the road from Beit Bridge to Harare looked like this. What an adventure. Strip road - I remember thinking how courteous people were when passing one another - each vehicle would pull to the left with only the right hand wheels left on the strip for traction. There was an occasion when someone (who clearly did not know my mother!) did not pull over in a timely manner and my mother decided not to be so courteous!

My mother was surprisingly calm when we brought these to her in cupped hands - we were like cats bringing in prey. Millipedes, South Afrika, Cupped Hands, Kwazulu Natal, The Beautiful Country, African Animals, Zimbabwe, Afrikaans, The Good Old Days

Shongololo (millipede). My mother was surprisingly calm when we brought these to her in cupped hands - we were like cats bringing in prey.....

Balancing Rocks, Matopos National Park, Zimbabwe. I spent part of my childhood on the research station not far away. I remember loads of brightly coloured lizards in the rocks and we used to feed them minced meat.
