Laying a hedge is the 2,000+ year-old method of fencing, except the fence is alive. Some hedges alive today in the UK were laid before the Dark Ages! A hedge not only keeps livestock fenced but also prevents soil erosion and water runoff. Living hedges are good wind blocks and snow collectors as well as habitat for birds, insects and small mammals. The photo shown is a freshly laid hedge. The anatomy of a Smart City: By 2050 the world's population is expected to reach 9 billion (from 7 billion today). It's easy to imagine the cities of the future grinding to a halt as they struggle to cope with overcrowding, congestion & the provision of basic food, energy & water supplies. Fortunately, through technology, there's much that can be done - Smart City thinking is catching on http://www.guardian.co.uk/sustainable-business/making-smart-cities-realit-live-discussion?INTCMP=SRCH= Urban Design Plan, Biofilic Design, Graphic Design, Future City, Sustainable Development

Rain Garden: A shallow depression (6”-12” deep) with a designed soil mix & collection of plants that mimic a native forest’s drainage system by collecting, absorbing, & filtering rainwater. Unlike standard lawns, they can safely infiltrate greater amounts of water, allowing homeowners a way to redirect runoff that would otherwise go to a municipal stormwater or sewer system. By directing this water to a rain garden it also allows the plants to help filter out pollutants http://raingardens.info/ Water Collection System, Rain Collection, Rainwater Harvesting System, Sewer System, Aeroponics, Permaculture Design, Lawn Sprinklers, Rain Garden, Garden City
