Former Grand Central cinema, 1983
The Grand Central in George Street had been closed since October 1981. By May 1983 it was made known the building was due to be demolished (along with the adjacent ice rink in Spring Garden) to make way for a housing development.

Just as Dundee had done away with the Wellgate in the early seventies, in the following decade Aberdeen set about clearing away lower George Street to replace it with a shopping mall in a project known as the 'Bredero scheme'.
