Backdoor Bougainvillea - Oil on Canvas. 230 x 310 mm. This the backdoor to the Groot Constantia Manor House in which Simon van der Stel, Governer of the Cape lived from 1685. Being in this courtyard, just a 20 minute walk from my home always fills me with history as I imagine the cooks and servants walking up and down these steps back then. A large ginger cat perches himself on a pillar.

Buitenverwachting - Oil on Canvas. 530 x 570 mm. The Buitenverwachting Manor House and Sauvignon Blanc vineyard in winter after pruning. I worked briefly on this beautiful farm in 2012. I painted this standing in the vineyard. This was also painted before the big fire in 2015 destroyed most of the pine forest. A Steppe Buzzard soars overhead in the open sky. I love how these birds fly all the way down from Russia for our South African summers.

Buitenverwachting Manor - Chalk pastel and charcoal on paper. 210 x 297 mm. I drew this in Autumn, standing in the Sauvignon Blanc vineyard in front of the Buitenverwachting Manor House. The vines had gone through their first stage pruning. The clouds were descending characteristically over the face of the mountain on this cold Constantia day. Fires have since burned all the pine forests on the mountain away.

Churchyard in Yorkshire - Charcoal on paper. 175 x 245 mm. I spent two years travelling the UK alone and often frequented some of the old churches and cathedrals. I like the Gothic nature of this scene and the ancient Druidic megalith.

Constantia Uitsig Chardonnay Vineyard (Plein Aire) - Oil on Board. 40 x 50 cm.A plein air study of the Chardonnay Vineyard on Constantia Uitsig for a larger painting in the studio. I worked on this farm for a few years, just a 15 minute walk from my house. I loved walking through the vines on a cool evening. A flock of Sacred Ibis fly on their way home in the distance.

Cottage through Oak Trees - Oil on Board. 31 x 30 cm. A thatched-roofed cottage at the end of a small vineyard framed by oak trees. A troop of about 70 baboons past within meters on all sides of me while I was sitting painting this en plein air and they just seemed to ignore me.
