Black Swan on Dreyersdal Farm - Oil on Canvas. 755 x 500 mm. I spent most of my childhood on this farm near my parents house, doing boyhood things like fishing, bird watching, hunting and playing war games with my friends. The dam was a bird sanctuary for many waterbirds. The farm had cattle, geese, a female ostrich and a Black Swan. I thought the Black Swan on the dam was very beautiful. I sat on the bank and sketched the scene before painting it 'en plein aire'.

Midnight Nude - Oil on canvas. 46 x 36 cm. A woman lying naked on a bed with a book and a black cat. I painted this from a live model in life class. I wanted to create a feeling of mystery around the scene with symbolism, inspiring a lot of questions; an unknown story to be told.

Old House on Chapmans Peak - Pencil on paper. 210 x 297 mm. This is the old ruined Forester's Cottage on Chapman's Peak overlooking Hout Bay, Cape Town. The forester lived here early in the 20th Century when the mountain was covered in pine plantations. There's a good hiking trail I enjoy up there.

Uitsig Paddocks (Charcoal) - Charcoal and ochre on paper. 175 x 245 mm. I used to talk walks between the wine farms. This was a nice view looking across the valley of Constantia Uitsig. I did an oil painting of this view afterwards.

Behind the River Café - Charcoal on paper. 297 x 210 mm. I drew this a while back when I was working at the wine shop on Constantia Uitsig. This was the view behind the cafe looking down towards the Muizenberg mountains and the remains of Tokai forest. The landscape of my childhood is always changing.

Buitenverwachting Manor - Chalk pastel and charcoal on paper. 210 x 297 mm. I drew this in Autumn, standing in the Sauvignon Blanc vineyard in front of the Buitenverwachting Manor House. The vines had gone through their first stage pruning. The clouds were descending characteristically over the face of the mountain on this cold Constantia day. Fires have since burned all the pine forests on the mountain away.

The Inward Smile - Charcoal on paper. 47 x 42 cm. This is my beautiful Sardinian friend Flavia in her serene Madonna-like pose. Her gaze is calm and benevolent. I did the highlights on her top with a China White pencil.

Horses Running Through Water - Charcoal on paper. 45 x 90 cm. I drew these horses as a charcoal mock up for a commissioned painting double this size. I toned the Fabriano paper with diluted grey acrylic paint, and then used vine and compressed charcoal. I used oil pastel for the whites as fixative tends to dull chalk highlights.

Road Through Constantia Uitsig - Oil on paper. 30 x 23 cm. This is the view I had when I worked in the wine shop on Constantia Uitsig from 2008 until 2014. These were the Sauvignon and Semillion vines turning yellow in Autumn. The road leads up to the restaurants. Sadly, none of this exists anymore, as new owners bought the farm, pulled out the vines, closed the famous restaurants, and evicted the families who had been living and working on the farm for generations.

Charcoal Nude 2 - Charcoal on paper. 50 x 35 cm. This is the same deaf model I drew from life. But now her face is revealed to us, and she seems strong in her body and her personality. She is facing the light with closed eyes; neither seeing nor hearing; strong in herself.
