Taboo Dakota Crego

In my household racism was something that was talked about. My mom wanted to teach us that people are people no matter what color of skin they happen to have. She said to judge people by their actions rather then pigments of their skin. I am a naturally tan person, despite not having any Hispanic heritage so I got to deal with racist slurs for no reason. My mom taught me this was wrong and we all need to get along.
Tattoos can be very taboo in modern society. At my place of employment I have seen the boss turn down good applicants because of tattoos. In my family we were able to talk about tattoos, and while I have none, most of my family does. This again went with my moms motto of judge actions, not pigments in skin.
Gambling is very taboo in society. After doing studies for school I found it has benefits and disadvantages. People believes it brings crime but that is actually found to be false. Monetarily the taxes it brings in and jobs it provides are very beneficial. The one thing that is bad is that it gives into people with addiction, but they will end up finding ways to gamble anyways.
People want to hide drugs in society and make people think they only exist on the news. Truth is that in the societies were drugs are legal, like in Europe, the number of abusers actually drops drastically. In my household we were not allowed to do drugs, but my mom still wanted us to be informed enough to say no and give real reasons on why they were not good.
