All polyurethane is not the same - different manufacturers make use of different formulas (chemical compositions) for their thane & this changes the entire feel of a wheel. Rebound - how quickly the thane returns to its initial shape after being compressed - is crucial as a wheel is constantly compressing & uncompressing driving itself forward. A wheel with little rebound won't have a lot of compression potential are so will slower than a wheel that is high rebound. Just like the durometer the lip profile of your wheels will determine how much they grip or don't. Round-lipped wheels have the most progressive transfer from grip to slip & often tend to be the most predictable when sliding. Bevel-lipped wheels are the in-between round- & square-lipped wheels. Their lips are cut so that you have a contact patch on the very edge of the wheel leaving them not as grippy as a square-lipped wheel but not as slide-happy as a round-lipped wheel. The next part we'll looking at this #wheelstokewednesday is the core & it's variations Centerset cores lie an equal distance from each side wear evenly & can be flipped to get a bit more out the wheel when one side wears more & are more difficult to initiate slides on but offer more control. Offset cores lie between the center & the inside edge of the wheel & is the most common placement offering a sweet balance of traction & slide - resulting in an offset coning wear pattern - while… Skate Style, Instagram Posts, Shopping

The contact patch is the part of the wheel that is in contact with the ground & shouldn't be confused with the overall width which could be a bit wider depending on the wheel's shape. A wide contact patch offers more grip as there's more urethane on the road whereas a thinner contact patch is offers an easier slide as there is less urethane on the road. The contact patch works closely with the durometer of the wheel in determining how grippy a wheel ultimately is. Image via… Confused, Wednesday, Patches, Shape, Instagram Posts, Shopping

Next up in the anatomy this #wheelstokewednesday is the diameter or size of the wheel. Simply put larger wheels = faster & smaller wheels = quicker acceleration. This is because smaller wheels have less inertia (resistance) to overcome to start spinning whereas larger wheel will hold speed/momentum much better. The 2 other main aspects that the wheel diameter affects is the ability to roll over stuff like potholes stones & small curbs - large wheels can get over things much more easily… Get Over It, Spinning, Anatomy, Wednesday, Larger, Hold On, Wheels, Stones, Instagram Posts

Welcome to this week's #wheelstokewednesday where we'll be taking a closer look at the anatomy of a longboard wheel. First up is the durometer or "duro" which measures how hard or soft your wheels (or polyurethane that your wheels are made of) are according to the Shore A scale. As a general rule softer wheels are typically grippier as they tend to have a softer ride rolling over any inconsistencies in the road more smoothly. Harder wheels in comparison slide easier & often have a faster… Closer, Anatomy, Wednesday, Scale, Wheels, Boards, Instagram Posts, Weighing Scale, Planks

Bearings perform best when each of its parts is functioning properly & that's why it's crucial to know what the various parts are: Firstly the Outer Ring is the largest ring that all the other parts fit into. Next is the Steel Balls - arguably the most important part of the bearing - allow the bearing casing to spin around it. They rest in the Ball Retainer or Delcrin Crown which holds the individual bearings in place. Next is the Inner Ring - the small metal ring that fits witin the Outer… Thin Rings, Metal Ring, Spin, Wednesday, Balls, Rest, Crown, Steel, Medium

Treated as a necessity without any graphics or contours to admire the 22mm-diameter steel or ceramic bearings that lie in your wheel are ultimately what keeps you rolling.
