Afrikaans is a West Germanic language spoken by 20+ million speakers. Afrikaans is a daughter language of Dutch, and they share around 90% of their vocabulary. It is the official language of South Africa and is recognized as a minority language in Namibia and Botswana, where it is commonly the lingua franca.
