During the civil war in our country we had to travel in convoy when we drove from place to place - especially long trips - as there was always a chance of an ambush attack on individual vehicles. Convoy

By the late seventies convoys were the only safe way to travel between many towns. Convoys were operated by the police and the escort vehicles crewed in the main by reservists. Founded in 1964 as the armed forces of the self-governing British colony of Rhodesia, they remained loyal to the Salisbury government after it unilaterally declared Rhodesia's independence on 11 November 1965. Britain and the United Nations refused to recognise this, and regarded the country as a rebellious British colony throughout its existence
