If I Built a Car (If I Built Series): Van Dusen, Chris: 9780147509147: Amazon.com: Books
Car day is one of my favorites with first grade. We discuss the simple machine of wheels and axles, the forces working on a car, and parts of a car. We then weigh toy cars and race them down a ramp (predicting which will win based on the weight). We finish by reading "If I Built A Car" by Chris Van Dusen and build our own mini dream cars using the engineering design process! STEM is so much fun! 🚙

The STEM Space Podcast: Ep. 43. How Do We Define Success In STEM? — Vivify STEM
Can you design a roller coaster? Is it the process or the product that matters? How do we define success in STEM, especially with all of the variables presented to us as teachers? In this episode of The STEM Space, Natasha and Claire discuss all the learning curves the majority of us encounter when trying to map out a STEM curriculum, make sure all the proper standards apply, and discern whether our students are actually taking anything away from their STEM activities.
This cool bicolor flower experiment is perfect for young scientists to explore plants. To show children just what plants do with all the water they take in, I added a little twist on a classic kids’ science experiment by dyeing a single flower not one but TWO colors. Kids will love the outcome! Try it out today!
STEM Curriculum Map — Vivify STEM
I often get asked, “how do I teach STEM to my preschooler(s)?!” My answer is usually that you probably already are! Kids should start with a solid toolbox of experiences. Before we give them the science words, they need to have experienced the concepts. Leave screens alone. Encourage them to ask all the questions. Model curiosity for them!
