This year, the Defence Aboriginal Advisory Group (DAAG) celebrates its 20th anniversary and a long legacy of accomplishments. The DAAG advises the Defence Champion for Aboriginal Peoples on significant issues and trends affecting the role and quality of life of Aboriginal people serving in the Department of National Defence (DND) and the Canadian Armed forces (CAF).
Canada and its close ally Brazil are among some 50 nations participating in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti, commonly known by its French name, Mission des Nations Unies pour la stabilisation en Haïti. The UN mission has been in Haiti since 2004, supporting the island nation as it strengthens its security and institutions.
Religious services were conducted on 24 April 2006 by Canadian Armed Forces chaplains of the Protestant, Catholic and Muslim faiths for four soldiers, Lieutenant William Turner, Corporal Matthew Dinning, Bombardier Myles Mansell and Corporal Randy Payne, who died when their G-wagon struck an improvised explosive device during a patrol north of Kandahar City.
