John W. Heisman, father of the forward pass, originator of the hidden ball play, and the man for whom the Heisman Memorial Trophy was named, officially won twelve games, lost four, and tied two as Auburn's football coach from 1895 through 1899. In 1971, Tiger quarterback Pat Sullivan became the first player from an Alabama school to win the Heisman Trophy. Auburn tailback Bo Jackson became the state's second Heisman winner in 1985.
