Western Cape wineries

I love South African wine! I try to visit new wineries each time I'm in the region (six trips so far), as well as revisit a few favorites.

I tried their 2014 Sauvignon Blanc, 2013 Isliedh (a Sauv Blanc/Semillion blend) and 2014 Splattered Toad Sauvignon Blanc. This vineyard is on the edge of the recent fires in the Table Mountain area.

Black Oystercatcher Wines. Boutique wines from the cool tip of Africa. Cool climate wines grown and made in Elim, Cape Agulhas, South Africa. I visited in September 2016 en route to the southernmost point. I tasted the 2015 Sauvignon Blanc, 2014 White Pearl (a blend of 72% Semillon and 28% Sauv Blanc; excellent), 2015 Rose, 2013 Cab Sauv Merlot (50/50) and 2013 Triton (86% Shiraz/12% Cab Sauv/2% Cab Franc, also excellent).

The Black Oystercatcher White Pearl is an exceptional food. This blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon is full bodied and complex, with a long finish.
