Emily Hobhouse (9 April 1860 – 8 June 1926) was a British welfare campaigner, who is primarily remembered for bringing to the attention of the British public, and working to change, the deprived conditions inside the British concentration camps in South Africa built for Boer women and children during the Second Boer War.

Isabella Augusta, Lady Gregory,1852 –1932, born Isabella Augusta Persse, was an Irish dramatist & folklorist. With William Butler Yeats & Edward Martyn, she co-founded the Irish Literary Theatre & the Abbey Theatre. She wrote numerous short works for both companies. Lady Gregory produced a number of books of retellings of stories taken from Irish mythology.

Ethel 'Ettie' Fane (27.6.1867|28.5.1952) daughter of Julian Fane, granddaughter of John Fane, 11th Earl of Westmorland; married William Lord Desborough in 1887. They had 5 children, her 3 sons were all killed between 1915/1926, 2 during WWI & Ivo as a result of a car accident. They lived at Taplow Court, hosting many house parties. Ettie was involved in countless affairs with younger men, Margot Asquith said of her, 'She tells enough white lies to ice a wedding cake'.

Ivo the youngest brother b. 1898 was killed in a car accident in 1926. Of the 2 girls, Monica, b. 1893, served as a VAD at the British Hospital at Wimereux, nr Boulogne; & the youngest Alexandra Imogen, known as 'Mogs', was born in 1905.
