ACHILLES TENDINTIS/TENDINOPATHY REHAB: RUNNING PREP YOU SHOULD KNOW!
ACHILLES HEALTH: Getting ready for sport! If you missed my last Achilles post - I recommend going to check it out. Because once you’re out of basic calf strengthening… it’s important to address the the of the posterior chain, impact & plyometrics! Achilles tendinopathy can present in a couple spots, at the heel (insertional) or in the mid-portion of the tendon. Common complaint s are pain/aches, tightness, and sometimes swelling in the region. There is a method for approaching EACH so get assessed! It’s one of the MOST common of the tendinopathies, ignoring it frequently leads to it either worsening, or showing up again later with a spike in activity after it “went away”…. I see this ALL THE TIME in new runners, dancers, & athletes picking up impact (running/jumping) with sports. 🧨

Signs And Symptoms of Achilles Tendonitis
The main symptoms of Achilles tendonitis are pain and inflammation to the tendon, its attachment on the calcaneus, or its interface with the calf muscles. Achilles tendonitis pain may be increased with calf muscle contraction, such as a calf raise, the toe-off portion of walking, stretching the tendon, or direct contact. If severe inflammation is present, there may even be Achilles tendonitis pain at rest, and the skin may look a little more red and more warm to the touch relative to the other side. What Else Can Contribute To A Thickened Achilles Tendon?
According to some other studies, the presence of Type 2 diabetes may contribute to the development of a thickened Achilles tendon (Akturk et al, 2007). Additionally, in people who have coronary heart disease, it was shown that a thickened Achilles tendon was associated with higher disease severity relative to those with a normal tendon thickness (Hashimoto et al, 2019).
