Testing the Go Foil & Emboss Tool

Today, I am putting one of my new tools to the test to see how it works, and if it delivers what it promises. The machine I am talking about, is the Go Foil & Emboss, which is used in conjunction with the Go Cut & Emboss. Both machines are from Couture Creations. Now, having conducted the tests and experiments, I have to admit that I am in love! The two machines, used together, delivers exactly what they promise: beautiful die-cuts that are both gilded and embossed. Let me show you why I…

Scrapbook Paper 5: Painting Cupcakes

My young niece had her birthday and the theme centered around cupcakes, something she loves to bake, but only so she can decorate them herself. I decided that I would much rather make a scrapbook page around the theme than to work with any of the existing ones on the market. It simply makes the whole page so much more special in the end. I started by preparing a blank paper with gesso so it would be able to take paint. I had a set of three decorative tapes that I wanted to use as a similar…

Make Your Own Scrapbook Paper 4

I wanted to create a rather natural looking page that would remind of nature and the great outdoors. I had a couple of leftover pieces from other crafts and projects that I thought would work well with the project and I was thrilled to use these in the final assemblage. Get ready to paint, paste, decoupage and much more in today's blog! I start by gathering the materials I envision could work with this project. I have a 12" x 12" paper that has been prepared with gesso to strengthen it to…

Scrapbook Paper 3 Acrylic paint as an adhesive

We will be making another scrapbook page today, or if you wish, another mixed media project. This one relies very much on product knowledge, but fear not, I will teach you all the tricks. We use acrylic paint as an adhesive in this project, since all acrylic paints has wonderful adhesive qualities. I start on a prepared paper which has been strengthened with gesso. Read more about that here. I will also need some 6" x 6" patterned papers, acrylic paint, a flat brush and Acrylic Gel Medium. I…

Scrapbookpaper 2

I am uncertain whether I should label this as making a scrapbook page, or if it is not mixed media. Sometimes the lines get very blurred, especially when you add art journaling to the mix. I leave the thought with you and allow you to decide. I start of by preparing the background. I use a piece of paper that has been strengthened with gesso. You can read more about the strengthening of paper here. I will also use a flat brush and acrylic paint. We have entered Winter and I can feel the…

Baby Advice Album

A friend dropped by the other day with the most wonderful idea of compiling an album with parental advice for a first-time parent and colleague at work. She had no idea how to go about it and had never done something like this before. I jumped at the opportunity to be a part of the fun that this promised to be and over the span of two afternoons and nights, we had the album ready. She then went off in search of advice from those who knew the father-to-be, and pretty soon the album was done…

Scrapbooking: Capturing Your Ballerina In Colour Part 2

In the previous blog I showed you how to colour a cute ballerina with colouring pencils. In today's blog, we add this picture, along with photos and other memorabilia from the day, to turn my preschooler niece's participation in the Eisteddfod, into a keepsake memory. The design we used is taken from my book Designs By Miekie 1. I asked my sister-in-law to give me a copy of the poem that was recited, the programme for the day as well as a photo of my niece to incorporate in the layout. I…

Scrapbooking: Capturing Your Ballerina In Colour Part 1

Little girls have been fascinated by ballerinas for centuries. My little preschooler niece recently participated in the Eisteddfod where she recited a poem about ballerinas. I captured these sweet memories for her album by colouring a ballerina design with colouring pencils, before incorporating it into her scrapbook photo album. The design is taken from my book Designs By Miekie 1. I started the project by tracing the design onto printer paper. You may wish to print it rather than to redraw…

Travel Journaling: Using Your Adult Colouring Pictures Part 2

In the previous blog, I shared some tricks with you to speed up your adult colouring. In today's blog, I show you how to take those coloured pictures and then incorporate them into your travel journaling. The design we use is taken from my book Designs By Miekie 1. I found these two pages that will work wonderfully with my colour palette as well as my theme. Both pages measure 12" x 12". I start by cutting out the design I coloured in the previous blog as I want as much as possible of my…

Travel Journaling: Using Your Adult Colouring Pictures Part 1

It is no secret that I simply love to travel. When I do, I love to take loads of photos and bring back as many memories as possible. You are probably no different from me in this regard. Being a crafter, you probably also like to journal those memories. We do exactly that in today's blog when I show you how to incorporate your adult colouring pages into your journaling. The design I use comes from my book Designs By Miekie 1. Designs By Miekie 1consists of 50 line drawings with images that…

Scrapbooking 15: Allowing the Date to Dictate the Layout

For today's blog I had a brand new baby and the 1st of January. Which do you show off in your album? The newborn will always be more important, but when you allow the newborn to direct the attention to the date, you can allow the date to dictate the layout. This is exactly what I did in today's blog. I had these cute photos where pink and red dominated and decided to continue with this color scheme when deciding on my craft paper for the layout. I found coordinating monochrome paper and cut…

Scrapbooking 14: Using Circles in Your Layout

It is high time we did another scrapbooking project as this has been neglected of late. In today's blog I use circles to dominate my layout and I show you how to have some fun with this versatile shape by hanging the circles like baubles from a coat hanger. I have a number of really precious photos to work with in today's project of where this little baby meets her grandparents for the very first time. I would like to use circles, as this will help to focus the attention on the people…

Scrapbooking: Adding a mini album to a page layout

I have talked about interactive scrapbook pages in a previous blog when I showed you how to make a photo pin wheel that revolved round and round to reveal different photos. You can read that blog here. Today I show you how to add yet another interactive element to your page; a mini album to page through revealing small photos and hidden journaling. The photos I am working with today are not spectacular at all. Yet they hold great value to the people involved as this is the home-coming of the…
