Sarel Cilliers was ‘n baie bekende Voortrekker wat oorspronklik in die Paarl gewoon het. Hy is gebore op die plaas Schoongezicht in Dal Josaphat op 7.9.1801. in 1836 het Cilliers met vrou en 6 kinders by die Potgieter-trek laat aansluit. Hy was daarvan oortuig dat dit God se wil is dat hy moes trek. Cilliers word ook deur sommige as die ‘vader van die Gelofte’ beskou wat die Voortrekkers afgelê het voor die Slag van Bloedrivier wat op 16.12.1838 plaasgevind het.
