The side yard has been completed. The pea gravel pathway is retained by pressure treated fence boards along the existing fenceline, and Antique Carriage Edge along the lawn areas. The perennials will take about 3 years to mature, and the groundcovers will cover the pea gravel and fill in between the stepping stones. The existing catch basin for the downspout is hidden beneath the landscape fabric and pea gravel, and a rock was placed below the downspout to disperse water so the pea gravel…
Old timbers, new steps
The old steps were not consistent and too high so I added timbers to build a consistent rhythm. The timbers were from an old retaining wall I replaced two years ago. The pea rock was left over from a project. I left the little shrub in the steps for garnishment. As soon as people step on them they realize they need to adjust to new materials. Its like walking up a beach. I think this will help the timbers keep dry and reduce decay. The steps are below ground level, as is good landscape…
