The Alfred Basin, Table Bay Harbour, Cape Town
The Alfred Basin, photographed in 1900, is seen here bursting at the seams with the sailing ships that plied their trade to and from the Cape. Through the rigging, a number of other ships can be seen at anchor in Table Bay
Cape Town close up (circa 1938-ish)
Detail of an old photo of Cape Town. Will try and get a high-def scan of this pic (it's very large (a1+), and the owner might not trust me with it).
Church Square, Cape Town
A view of Church Square dating from around 1892. The slave tree, under which slaves were sold, was situated just to the right of the trees in the photograph. The remarkable clarity of this image was achieved by the photographer taking multiple exposures - as indicated by the slight blur of the feet of pedestrians crossing the square.
