Between 1903 and 1909, up to 800 Boer families trekked to Argentina’s east coast. They had suffered badly in the 1899-1902 Anglo-Boer War, lost family members in Kitchener’s concentration camps or had their farmhouses destroyed by British troops. Most of them fought in the war against Britain and they had no desire to live under their conqueror’s thumb. Of their descendants still lives in Patagonia

Die dag is vernoem na Paul Kruger, 'n Boere weerstandsleier teen Britse bewind en later president van die Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek, wat sy verjaarsdag op 10 Oktober gevier het. Op die dag is gepoog om die waardes en beginsels in die Afrikanervolkslewe te onderstreep
