Slangkop Symphony © Craig Coetzer Photography 2013 This is a shot taken at sunset on the evening of the 20th Dec 2013 at 7:48pm. My family and I took a road trip to Cape Town in December 2013, I had planned to make loads of travel and landscape photographs over the 3 week break. We had been to Cape Town previously, but had stayed in Simon’s Town, which was originally established as a harbour, but later became home to the Royal Naval Base. Simon’s Town is a magical place, and I’d go back…

Time Out This is a shot taken at sunset on the evening of the 20th Dec 2013 at 7:53pm. I set out to do some long exposure photography on this particular day, I managed to grab a few decent shots facing the ocean before all the usable light was all but gone. As I began packing it in, I turned around and noticed this magnificent composition and fading light just over the Table Mountain National Park, and knew immediately that I had to grab just one last shot. Sometimes in life we get so…

The Great Encounter © Craig Coetzer Photography 2015 For this shot I had to literally drag my sorry self out of bed at 4:15am whilst on holiday over Dec 2014. I almost titled this photo 'The Amazing Race' based of course entirely on how it felt making my way to this location whilst the rest of the world around me slept. I took this shot on the 30th Dec 2014 at 4:50am! EXIF data (181 sec at f11, ISO 200) at 10mm

Simons Town - looking back toward the harbor whilst standing on S99 Assegaai The British originally transformed Simon's Town into a naval base in the early 1800's for the South Atlantic Squadron until the South African Navy took over the naval base in the mid 1950's. We were fortunate enough to take a private guided tour of the S99 Assegaai which is an old retired submarine.

Reminiscence This is a shot taken at sunrise on the morning of the 2nd Jan 2015 at 5:29am. I couldn’t help but think how fortunate I was to witness the dawn of a new day, something I think many of us simply take for granted. So, if you’ve never witnessed a sunrise, please get up early one morning and make an effort to experience and appreciate one unfolding in front of you, there’s something almost spiritually fulfilling about watching the sun come up, the warmth of the golden first…

Magnificent Mountain This is a photo I took just before 8pm one evening in Cape Town, Kommetjie, South Africa on 15 December 2013. I was amazed at how beautifully the mountains lit up with the sunset that was unfolding behind me and already touching the horizon. The moon had already made an appearance for the evening and the sky was starting to turn a beautiful dark blue/purple shade, otherwise also know as civil twilight.

Inferno -This is a long exposure photo (301 seconds) I took around 5am. What caught my attention was this lovely smooth and sun bleached driftwood and thought it might make for a nice bit of foreground interest, the sun rise was only just beginning but when you look at this photo you can feel the sunlight pouring onto your face...5am is pretty cold in South Africa in April. This photo was taken in Scottburgh, Kwazulu Natal, South Africa on the 4th of April 2012

Blouberg Strand in Cape Town on a beautiful day, you can see Table Mountain in the background.

Looking Back - This is a beautiful photo of the V&A Waterfront taken from a moving boat on our way out of the harbor. This particular perspective makes this photo quite unique. This photo was taken in Cape Town, South Africa on the 23rd of Dec 2013. EXIF data (1/80 sec at f9.0, ISO 100) at 18mm — at V&A Waterfront Cape Town.

The Road to El Dorado There's a little conserved piece of land up near the Slangkop Lighthouse in Kommetjie Cape Town, this wooden deck was constructed to keep the locals and tourists from trampling the natural beauty of the landscape in their quest to reach this magnificent lighthouse. I loved the way this beautifully weathered wooden pathway created a leading-line into the sunset at approximately 8pm. This photo was taken in Kommetjie, Cape Town, South Africa on the 18th December 2013.
