Ndebele Woman. Soft pastel on A2 paper. I was inspired to paint this woman by the proud way she carries herself and by her strong features. Add to that the colorfulness of her traditional garments and I was sold.

I took the photo that inspired this when I was visiting friends in the Netherlands. My friend had just bought her girls some story books and we were walking home. The middle one could not wait to get home before she started reading and I captured this enduring moment on camera. I finally got around to painting it and this is the result. For the joy of Reading. Mixed media on paper. R2500. Sold.

Portrait of a man. From the background emerges the uncomplicated figure of a man, but the viewer is unable to see him fully, as we often are incapable of seeing each other fully. Over the 4 smaller canvasses, emerges the outline of a head, the part of the body that controls our emotions, memories and hopes. At the bottom we can see a broken wall. This represents the man's broken past as well as his unfinished life. The figures in his head illustrates his ability to dream above his past.
