Africa Dance Fest @ BAM

The "African market" at BAM's Africa Dance Fest, Brooklyn. One shopowner had a pagne from the 2009 Obama visit to Ghana, with Atta Mills, His "first Lady" Naarou Mills, President Obama, And Michelle Obama. "Fancy" single sided. He got it in Ghana at the time, and was not interested in selling it. I don't blame him! A beautiful Wax print by GTP, one of the best I've seen.

Madiba schweschwe fabric | Etsy

Sadly this lovely Madiba print has been discontinued. I was lucky enough to source the last few yards of it in indigo. The rice shape pattern in the background is a very pale lemon colour. The width is 36 inches and I have pre-washed it to remove the dressing. This fabric could be used for various items, and it is a medium weight cotton

Victoria Rowell - Obama Dress at the Emmy Awards

Did you see the Emmy Awards this year? One of the hot topics is whether Victoria Rowell (formerly of The Young and Restless and Diagnosis: Murder) had one of the best or worst dresses. She wore one featuring Obama fabric from Ghana. Sistah blogger Karen Nicole, who has been to Ghana, discusses the fabric. If Victoria Rowell has any scraps left, I could use them for a new quilt! What do you think of her dress?

 Chair covered in Obama fabric.

More snaps from ABC Carpet & Home

Ikat graveyard. Chair covered in Obama fabric. Who knew? That slab on top is like 6 inches of marble. Holy cow. I totally want it. I think it was $4000 or something. Ouch. Madeline Weinrib rugs as far as the eye could see. You know, I want to dislike all her rugs now because she's just... everywhere. But there were some really interesting rugs in these piles. Loved these tables. Totally batshit crazy chandelier. Loved it.

Closing Of Textile Plant Marks Passing Of Already-Bygone Era

On Friday, Cranston Print Works in the central Massachusetts town of Webster will close, and in doing so give up its title as the oldest textile plant still operating in the United States. WBUR's Bob Oakes paid a visit to the plant in its final days.
